Golfing Lessons – Make Yourself A Better Player
People who play in any sport are always trying to improve. In many cases, if you have talent, practice will make you better. However, golf is one sport that not only requires practice to improve, it requires someone to inform you which parts of the game you need help with and which ones you do not. Golfing lessons are the most integral part of learning this game. If your intentions are to learn how to play better, having a Professional teach you is truly, the only method.
One of the most frustrating things to do is to try anything before you actually know how it is done. Think about letting a Doctor perform surgery before he has gone to school to learn how! Not likely. Yet, everyday, millions of golfers take to the course with suggestions from friends and relatives on how to play the game, effectively. There are many moving parts to a golf swing and different requirements within those moving parts.
Before you hit the first ball, there are a few things that must be learned. The goal of a good set up is balance. Your stance should be done with your feet spread to about the width of your shoulders. The position of the ball is the next thing to consider. For a tee shot, your ball should be positioned on a straight line to the instep of your forward foot. This will allow for the swing to be a bit of a reach to make contact. Lastly, as part of the address, your grip will be taught. There are several choices, but an overlap grip although not necessarily feeling comfortable, will likely be the best choice.
Even before you pick up a golf club, there are things that you must have knowledge about. How you approach the ball is the first step of the golf swing. Balance is one of the most parts of this process. Standing with your feet spread to about shoulders width, should provide a comfortable and stable position. The golf ball should be placed on a straight line from the instep of your forward foot. This way, you will be reaching out to hit it. Standing in this position, remember how this looks to you, as you must repeat it each time that you tee off.
Throughout your lessons, the Pro will teach you the proper way to get the club back to the bottom of your swing, with the most force and least amount of effort. The challenge here is learning how to maximize your swing speed without over swinging the club, while maintaining good balance. A great way to practice this is to swing your club while keeping your feet together. It will give you a feel for what perfect balance is all about. You cannot over swing, or you will fall down. Funny to see, however not the preferred choice.
The downswing is what will propel the ball, so this is where the power comes into play. However, until you are about half way down, your big muscles should be doing the work, not your hands and arms. Think of it as a recoil and uncoil. This will give you some idea of what you are trying to do. Again, a Professional will be able to assist you. The players on Tour, do not use their hands and wrists until the club is almost parallel to the ground on the way back to the tee. Then they release all of the power and hit the ball. The swing is not complete until you have finished. That means that your belly should be pointing towards the target and the club should fold, comfortably. This is the part of the swing that makes the ball head in the direction that you planned.
Once in the fairway or the rough, different shots need to be learned. A teacher will help you with this section of the game. Different clubs for different outcomes will become the norm. Then you need to learn how to chip and what to do around the green. Then with some putting lessons, you will have a full game to be proud to take to the practice range!
Although this may sound complicated it is not. Once you are taught the basics, you will be able to play. People who practice what they have been taught, will get better. This will happen more quickly if you have taken golfing lessons. So, go to the range and speak to a Professional. It does not matter if you are brand new at the game or if you have played for a long time. It is very easy to develop bad habits and very hard to get rid of them without help. When at the range, work with a teacher and while there, work on improving your overall game with putting lessons and you will winning all of your side bets and walking away from the course with a big smile on your face.
